Xbox Emulators for PC

xemu, Cxbx-Reloaded, Xenia and Xenia Canary with official PC release downloads, supported host operating systems, requirements and setup notes.

OS icons show the documented route. Native packages, experimental packages, source builds, legacy packages, Wine and RetroArch cores have separate labels. Open a card’s host notes for architecture and OS requirements.

Reviewed 2 November 2026. Downloads contain emulator software; supply your own game dumps and any required console files. Check title-specific compatibility before choosing a project.

Setup, requirements & compatibility
Requirements
A host meeting Xenia’s current CPU/GPU requirements and your own game dumps. Linux development references in the source repository are not a verified native release on this master-download route.
Set up
Extract the entire Windows archive, retain its files and open your supported game executable/disc dump. Configure the renderer and input according to the official documentation.
Compatibility
Use the master-branch compatibility reports. Results and patches for Canary do not automatically apply to this build.

An experimental Xenia fork with additional options and separate Windows and Linux release assets.

Setup, requirements & compatibility
Requirements
Choose the package for your host and the branch documented by the project. The checked Canary release publishes a native Linux AppImage; no macOS release was verified.
Set up
Extract the Windows archive or follow the Linux AppImage instructions, then add your own game dump. Apply title/update-specific patches only when they match the selected build and game version.
Compatibility
Canary has its own compatibility list. New features and patches can improve one title and regress another.

xemu

Released builds · v0.8.139
WindowsmacOSLinux

A full-system original-Xbox emulator with native Windows, macOS and Linux downloads.

Setup, requirements & compatibility
Requirements
Requires an MCPX boot ROM, compatible flash BIOS and Xbox hard-disk image. These are separate from the emulator download. Match the project’s required-file documentation and use your own console data where needed.
Set up
Extract the host build and configure the required file paths in xemu’s settings. Add your supported disc image, map the controller and test a single title. Renaming an arbitrary ISO does not convert it to an Xbox disc image.
Compatibility
Use xemu’s compatibility reports for the exact title; reports depend on the tested version and host.
Host notes
  • Windows: x86-64 or ARM64 release
  • macOS: Universal release
  • Linux: x86-64 or ARM64 AppImage

Setup, requirements & compatibility
Requirements
Follow the project’s Windows runtime prerequisites. Linux uses Wine rather than a native Linux binary, and the README warns about instability. The README explicitly says macOS with Wine is not working.
Set up
Extract the complete Windows release and configure your own supported Xbox game dump. For Linux, follow the project’s Wine dependencies and known-version caveats; do not treat it as a normal native Linux package.
Compatibility
Check its compatibility list and Wine caveats for the selected title. It is a separate approach from xemu’s full-system setup.
Host notes
  • Windows: x64 host; Windows package
  • Linux: Windows build under Wine; unstable and version-dependent

Set up your emulator

  1. Choose the exact host packageMatch Windows, macOS or Linux, CPU architecture and the app’s minimum OS. Experimental and source-build labels describe different routes.
  2. Keep the whole package togetherExtract ZIP/7z packages into their own folder. Follow the project’s runtime, driver and installation instructions. A console homebrew package cannot run as a desktop app.
  3. Configure required console filesSome emulators need your own BIOS, firmware, keys or system modules. Open the card’s requirements and official guide for exact formats and locations.
  4. Configure controls and savesMap a controller, choose a writable save location and test one game. Keep saves backed up before changing versions or switching forks.
  5. Use the compatibility trackerResults depend on the exact game update, emulator build and hardware. Source-only research entries are not a promise that a game will run.
